How to make a DIY Sensory Weighted Vest for a child, teen or adult with autism-

Do you teach students with autism who love to bounce, or crash into things? Do they charge around or throw them self on the ground? Some autistic people need proprioceptive input (deep pressure) in order to sense where their body is in space, and to feel calmer.

As you likely already know, buying weighted sensory products can be very expensive! Here’s an easy and inexpensive way to make a weighted vest for a child, teen or adult:

Simply buy wrist weights from a sports shop and pop them into the pockets of a favorite hoodie. The hoodie in this photo is sleeveless, but you can also use a hoodie with sleeves. Just remember to remove the weights before you put the hoodie in the washing machine!
